End of Year Update & January Fitness Challenge
It's been awhile since I've blogged. There hasn't been much to update on. I lost some of the motivation that I've had over the last couple of years over the last couple of months. Even I have to admit, I'm surprised that my motivation to keep at it lasted as long as it did. The problem with weight loss is that you really can't get lazy, ever, but I need(ed) to find a balance between the two extremes. I got lucky that I didn't put weight back on but, that's something short of a miracle. I'm going to start up using my blog again, sharing workouts, recipes, and general thoughts on life post weight loss.
Now, my confession. I was trying to live my life without MyFitnessPal and just try to keep at it without all the tech motivating me to keep at it. What I've learned about myself over the last few months is that I do need it to keep me motivated. Being accountable to myself isn't enough, I thought it would be. I need to keep myself in check by 'checking in' somewhere. Instead of making it a new years resolution to get back at it, I got back at it after Christmas. For me, new years resolutions rarely stick. Let's hope this does!
I asked for a Fitbit Flex from Santa this year and he listened. I've got my 24/7 wearable device now! It actually motivates me to get off my butt and walk around. I can see how much less I move on a day I work from home vs. a day that I go into the office. It will help keep me accountable. Even better than that, it connects with MFP and adjusts my calories day to day based on my activity level. It makes the process of calorie counting that much easier and for that, I am thankful. If I want to eat more, I have to move more (obviously) but the Fitbit has already had me change habits in a few short days. I walked to the grocery store yesterday instead of taking the car (even in the freezing cold) to get my steps up. I start doing the stairs at my house over and over to get my steps up. It reminds me that sitting and working, I have to get up every hour to get the blood circulating.
When it comes to bigger work outs I will of course continue to use my Nike+ Sportwatch for my runs and gym workouts as the Fitbit really only calculates steps. It's just one more piece of the puzzle for me to stay healthy. Big thanks to my friends who have Fitbits and sold me on the benefits of it over the last couple of months! Speaking of which, I need to be better about getting to the gym. As always, the holidays always throw a wrench into my regular schedule and this holiday season was exceptionally busy. I really did enjoy the holidays - the people, the food, the drinks. But it's time to get back to where I need to be.
So with all of that said, part of kick starting the new year and getting back to a healthier me is a fitness challenge. I made up the fitness calendar you can see here based on wanting to target certain muscle groups. I'm doing with some girlfriends so we all stay accountable. Depending on your fitness level, it may be easy or difficult but either way, it doesn't take that many minutes out of your day and gets you moving. You can of course make adjustments as you need to for your fitness level. Feel free to use this calendar and get yourself motivated to be a healthier you in 2015.
Wishing you all a very happy new year. All the best in 2015, make it one of your best years yet.
